the view
Today, I did something that I’ve been thinking about for a while, but haven’t actually done: I took a photo from the - ahem - toilet in my downstairs bathroom. Yes, I did indeed just write that for all the world to see. But here’s the deal. One of my favorite views is from that perch… looking up and out the window at the Crepe Myrtles that bud and bloom and wither there in the west-facing sun. I’ve seen a tree snake slithering up its trunk. I’ve seen bright red cardinals cavorting in its canopy of leaves. I’ve watched the tiny buds erupt into beautiful flowers. I’ve been mesmerized by squirrels that scamper about its branches. I’ve watched the seasons come and go in that tree, from that same perch. Every day.
And so this afternoon, I took a photo. I’ll do it again in summer, and again in fall. And again in winter. And next year, I’ll scrap it.
What should YOU take photos of as each season emerges? From what vantage point do you routinely watch the days become seasons? Think about it, and start documenting it! ![]()

I started mine this week too. I took a photo of the Claret Ash from my new balconey last night - it is looking a gorgeous claret shade right now. I think it will be nice to see the same view at different times of the year too…

I had a Red Bud tree planted last fall just outside the window I scrap by for this very reason. The buds are not open just yet but they are there…my new tree survived the winter! I can’t wait until they open and create pink branches and then to see the pretty heart shaped leaves too! Aside from my tree the rest of the view is not so spectaclar, except of course when my boys are playing out there…

Girl, if you can watch the trees bud and bloom while you are perched there then you are perched there tooooo long!

The view from my flat’s window isn’t good enough to view the world changing and the seasons passing. But your post and the photo game me an idea for all those who do have a great view. Put an empty picture frame on to a window and you have an instant piece of art. And the brilliant thing is, it changes often, and is natural too

Thank you Stacy, for a great idea. I look out my front window all year, and had never thought to chronicle the changes I see. I have a mock cherry out my window, holding a birdfeeder. It’s not blooming just yet, but I’ll have my camera ready when it does. Right now I enjoy looking out at my daffodils that are blooming. Two months ago it was snowy and icy. I wait for my daughter to come home through that window. Thank you for helping me to see that beauty that was right before me.
