Wednesday’s Weekly Scrap Challenge

by

Black & white photos are a timeless classic. We often think of them as being something from the past, the sign of photo taken long ago. But black & white photos are being featured in the scrapbook magazines more and more often…and not just on heritage layouts.

Without the distraction of competing colors in your photos, your subject is allowed to take center stage. Black & White photos in an album comprised mainly of colored pictures adds a little drama and surprise to your layout.

So, your challenge for this week is to use Black & White photos in a layout.

When might you want to use Black & White prints?

  • There are too many competing colors in your photos. Maybe you have pictures from your child’s birthday party and the guests are wearing colors that do nothing but clash.
  • You cannot find any papers to go with the colors in your photos.
  • You have travel and vacation photos of buildings and landmarks.
  • Wedding photos that you want to give a formal look to.
  • Heritage pages.
  • Pictures that you want to add “drama” to.
  • You truly want your subject to “pop” out of the page. I used my favorite picture of my daughter as my focal point of the page below, and feel that being in black and white it keeps her as center stage of the layout.
